You’ve probably heard the question about whether the glass is half full or half empty. But isn’t a glass refillable?

What we’re trying to tell you is to stay professionally and personally thirsty (we just had to use the metaphor). But you get the point. You must stay motivated, otherwise, you won’t be able to continually refill the glass. You don’t want an empty glass. There’s nothing to drink!

Anyway, let’s get a little serious. To help you with motivation, read some great tips from our Jazz employees:

1. You could yell, “Plot twist!” every time something doesn’t go as planned. But life isn’t a movie with plot twists (or is it?). It doesn’t matter. Just realize you still control the direction of the story.

It really is who you are, what you believe, and what you think you can achieve that decides your path.”

— Siham, a Digital Strategist at Jazz

2. Lily Tomlin, an actress and comedian, has a humorous way of talking about her career. She says, “I always wanted to be somebody, but now I realize I should have been more specific.” The lesson here is to define your own success — and act!

“First, know who you are. Find what your heart wants and own it. Second, define your own success based on what will make you happy and fulfilled, not just money and fancy things. Third, don’t stop learning — because it’s the only way to thrive in the digital age.”

— Asma, Head of Digital Policy at Jazz

3. Did you know that when you replace ‘I’ with ‘we’, illness becomes wellness? That’s pretty cool. Surround yourself with the right people. It will energize you more than a cup of tea (though you still should drink the tea!).

“In my team, I have digital analysts, data analysts, strategy experts and channel experts who work together to develop meaningful insights to improve our customer’s lives. Investing in the right people is the key to success for any organization and with the right attitude, coupled with capability, any team can do wonders for the organization.”

— Umair, Head of Digital Analytics, Strategy and Channels at Jazz

4. Do you know how a scrub jay protects its pile of worms? The bird repeatedly catches and stores them under a pile of leaves. It’s how they deal with the fear of bigger ‘onlookers’ and stress of potentially forgetting where the food spot is. What’s the takeaway here: A little paranoia isn’t a bad thing!

One of my favorite mantras is ‘only the paranoid survive’. We have to be wary of holding on to legacy technologies, because new technologies could squash us.”

— Aamir Ibrahim, CEO of Jazz

5. What if you’re on your way to work and everyone just starts singing and dancing like it’s a musical? Check out the “Sound of Music” performance at a Belgium train station. You would probably stop and watch — and maybe even dance and sing. Because you’ll be in the moment (always be in the moment!).

“I practice mindfulness, which enables me to focus entirely on the present and engage with my inner thought process. This helps me be more proactive while at work.”

— Umair, Head of Digital Analytics, Strategy and Channels at Jazz

6. Have you ever seen something amazing, strange, and/or exciting on Google Earth, like this herd of buffalo in Zambia or these potential UFO landing sites? Sometimes you just have to take a step back (or above) to find something wonderful.

“I love playing simulation games because I love strategizing, researching, and seeing what works. It actually teaches me a lot about identifying and capturing new opportunities in my work and life.”

— Shayan, PMO Digital & Research Manager

Take a sip of water. That’s life! Go out and experience it every day. With the right approach, motivation will come naturally, and you won’t ever burn out. Now, you should be ready to refill the glass.
