THE JOURNEY NORTH

Cardiff > Glasgow

NOVEMBER 2013

A fleeting visit but a goldmine for photography

LONG VIEWPOINTS

Back alleys and steep hills.

THE MACKINTOSH JEWEL

Glasgow School of Art. My Almer Mater — with fond memories of the four years I spent there. But don’t recall taking a single photograph of the building whilst I was a student! Criminal really.

OLDER STILL

Heading south from the Art School and Sauchiehall Street towards Buchanan and Argyle Streets — you’ll find Sloans hidden up a side alley, hailed as the oldest Bar in Glasgow. Lunch.

I rounded of the trip to Glasgow by heading West along Argyle Street to the Finneston area where a little gem — The Hidden Lane Gallery — sits anonymously amongst small shops and cafes. It hosts an amazing exhibition of prints by Margaret Watkins, an early 20th Century American photographer who worked and died in Glasgow. If you get the opportunity — go see her work.
