The Power of Story, Creativity and Narrative in the JEDSTAR Universe
Among the sea of games published every year, what made you choose a specific franchise or genre? One utilizes your mouse and cursor as a scope to shoot opposing forces. Another enables you to build structures and units to attack your opponents until they are eliminated.
These are basically two descriptions of the most popular genres in the video gaming industry. The one describes the First Person Shooter (FPS) such as Call of Duty, Rainbow Six and Battlefield franchises. The second are Real-Time Strategy games (RTS) such as Starcraft, Age of Empires and the Command & Conquer franchises just to name a few.
However, when you were standing in the aisle of your local CompUSA store looking at the back of the boxes, for those of us who are older and dial-up was the only way to get internet :), or just about to click the “buy” button, what influenced you the most when making that decision? Was it the idea of being a soldier in WWII? Helping in the escape of a Capt. Price? Taking revenge for the betrayal of the Confederacy by leading the Zerg? Yes, ultimately gameplay and mechanics has to be good, but what drove you to buy a specific game? More than not, it was the story, world or character you wanted to immerse yourself into that drove that choice. That is why game publishers spend millions on marketing and creating a trailer, just as in a Hollywood movie, to impress upon you the story.
Story in human history played such an influential role that according to the book Story by Robert McKee, “In 388 B.C. Plato urged the city fathers of Athens to exile all poets and STORYTELLERS. They are a threat to society, he argued.”
McKee continues that Plato stated “every effective story sends a charged idea out to us, in effect compelling the idea into us, that we must believe. In fact, the persuasive power of story is so great that we may believe its meaning even if we find it morally repellent. Storytellers, Plato insisted, are dangerous people. He was right.”
Grand Theft Auto, the mission of the Russian airport in COD MW2 or any game where a person plays the role of what society may view as morally reprehensible, had to be first fleshed out as a story before it is applied to the construct of a game in which we can play. It is not enough just to place you in a world and play, but rather context or the story first needs to be established. Again, the story or subject matter contributed an important role in one’s decision to purchase a specific game.
This is the fundamental reason why JEDSTAR puts such importance on story, creativity, narrative and whatever the time it takes to do it right. What people read, see and hear make a difference. Anyone can make pixels on a screen, print information on a card or make sounds blast out of your speakers. However, the products we have in our pipeline are more than just these things, rather they are worlds in which you will be able to immerse yourself into as well as empathize, or in some cases despise, the characters you will be encountering.
As of now we are in full production of our online collectable card game entitled “Aether Nova” in partnership with Frag Games. The lore is in place, the game engine fleshed out and currently we are in the design phase.
In addition, we are creating compelling character card art to not only make gameplay fun, but add value as an NFT or collectable, to be viewed, admired and traded. We also plan to have expansion cards that will feature exclusive art by AAA game illustrators who have worked on games such as Magic the Gathering, Hearthstone and other well known games.
These are just a few examples of what our amazing team is accomplishing now. With the utility and support from our KRED token, which will be launching on December 17, 2021 at 17:00 UTC , additional projects are in the pipeline that will even further the utility of all of our DEFI Tokens, JED, KRED and in the future ZED.
Some of the projects that are in the pipeline are, but not limited to, a graphic novel series as an NFT, animated series, feature animated films and ultimately an MMORPG that will encompass all aspects of the JEDSTAR world.
