the sun is rising
for the second time
in a day…

Roger’s faded skeleton hangs
suspended over a bed
inside a room inside an eye
gazing out of a wolf’s head.

a tower haunted by dreams
of swords raining down upon
tiny green domes
thinks of new designs
for pianos and bones.

although this is a book
about storms, about chains,
it is nonetheless impossible
to treat history
as a dustless snake.

so eye fades and falls
down upon blue hills.

every accordion is a prayer.

the second rise will be
opposite from the first.

…none of this means anything
except insofar
as it means everything
