It has been twenty-five years since the flood that impacted Wroclaw in Poland. Netflix now has a series which follows characters throught the days leading to the flood as well as how they handle the crisis as it happens.

The History
For people unfamiliar with Poland and its cities, I found a map online:

“High Water” spans six episodes and concentrates on local communities of the Wroclaw region.

According to The Official Website of Wroclaw, the rains in July 1997 were so heavy that the water could not be absorbed nor contained by the retention reservoirs, rivers and soil.

“The famous flood that affected a number of European countries in the summer of 1997 claimed the lives of 56 persons in Poland alone. It is estimated that around 7,000 persons lost their homes and around 40,000 lost their belongings. The total nationwide losses reached 12 billion PLN.”
