We launched our $JELLY airdrop and it is just the beginning!

A big thank you to our amazing contributors, developers, taste testers and our beloved Jelly Pep Squad. We’ll go into what happens next for our first Airdrop, when you can claim and how you can get involved for our next airdrop (yes there will be more Jelly Airdrops!)

Airdrops, Jelly-style

The Jelly airdrop is the first of many, and our first recipe from the Jelly Factory. We have taken a fresh approach to airdrops and what it means to reward a community.

Airdrops, as they were originally intended IRL, are precision, timely packages, customised to the immediate needs of those on the ground. The scientists at Jelly believe that airdrops for tokens should be the same.

Token airdrops should not be some one-off event, but one of many interactions between a project and their community. Perhaps due to implementation complexity, airdrops have usually been a snapshot of addresses, taken once. They have been used to either kick start a community, vampire another project, or take months or years later when a project has launched, retroactively, but never twice.

Of the people who hold your token, your distribution should include more contributors and supporters, than hunters and dumpers, but most importantly, users that deserve them. Rewards are so much sweeter when earned!

Airdrops as incentives

When you distribute your tokens only once at the start, this shapes the demographics for years to come. Retroactive airdrops on the other hand, are a missed opportunity to shape the project from the beginning. Airdrop hunters are blindly swapping tokens, hopping between side chains or bridging based on rumours and insider tips.

We’ve seen projects who weren’t fair, only to have their community divided and those who missed out leaving. No one likes missing out. Even when actions on-chain are rewarded, on-chain rules are easy to game, reverse engineer and harder to stop hunters and their bots due to immutability.

Our Jelly Airdrop has been designed to help us distribute incentives, and it is different in two key areas:

  • It is curated by our incentive engineer, Dr Jiggle, based on people’s meaningful contribution to our protocol and community. There is no substitute for human discernment and we’d love to reward those who made meaningful contributions and give bonus points for insights we found valuable.
  • We will have multiple airdrops. Our first $JELLY Airdrop is not a once-off. Rather, it is just the beginning. In future months we will be adding more $JELLY to the Airdrop pool, and the more you contribute the more you earn each month.

Recurring Airdrops

Our Taste Tester program is a great example of how we’re using recurring airdrops, where rounds of development from our Jelly scientists get user feedback from a growing group of taste testers. We get specific testing for each round, great feedback, and we reward those who do so in $JELLY.

For the cost updating one merkle root, we can update the balance of all our Taste Testers on the whitelist in 1 transaction, and they get to see their balances go up with every round based on the quality of their feedback.

The feedback loop is compounded by the fact that, our taste testers are rewarded in Jelly, and so, want the Jelly recipes to be as tasty as possible!

Proactive Airdrop

We believe airdrops should be proactive where possible, not retroactive. In the future there will be incentive engineers for every project, curating rewards and engineering tasks for the community. Users and contributors love being rewarded and there is a much clearer link for their actions to earn rewards. These proactive airdrops create a shorter feedback loop and further encourages community alignment.

The first stage of our Airdrop

Make no mistake, our airdrop is a little bit different. This is a proactive airdrop, so you can look in the fridge and see how many you have waiting, but this $JELLY is still hot and not set yet. We still have more tokens to allocate and will be in the upcoming state until we’ve released our Staking and Farming recipes and launched on one of the DEX’s. Read our Medium article “Serving up $JELLY” for more detail.

In our first Airdrop, we have distributed $JELLY rewards to people who have made a meaningful contribution to the Jelly Protocol so far… the Pep Squad (who help manage our community), Taste Testers (who give us user testing insights and critique our platform) and our amazing Core Team. If that’s you, you can check the Airdrop for your current balance at https://app.jelly.io/

Our next Airdrop

This is only just the beginning of our recurring Airdrops! Next month’s Airdrop we plan to run a much bigger whitelist to reward the 1000s of people in our OG community.

We are allocating tokens in multiple batches, before everything is ready and launched in the hope to make the best Jelly possible, together!

To become a contributor, go to our Discord and follow the announcements to join one of our programs. You can be one of the next Taste Testers, apply to the Pep Squad, share research in the Invention Lab channel or join our engineering team and help us craft the next generation of token incentives.

Making your own Airdrop

It’s also just the beginning for our Jelly factory. The $JELLY Airdrop is the first to launch using our Jelly Factory, using our very own JellyDrop Recipe. Now you’ll be able to make your own Airdrop too.

For projects wanting to use Jelly for your next airdrop, reach out to one of us today to secure early access to the Jelly Factory.
