Blog Idea: Absurd Insurance Stories

I think anyone who I’ve had a somewhat detailed conversation about health insurance with has explained to me a story of some absurd interaction they or someone they know has had with the health insurance system.

I also have this sense that these stories are far more common than people realize, and only a handful of them get reported on here and there.

To me, the health insurance system is fundamentally broken, but I think the storytelling around that could probably improve to change the public perception on the issue.

Here’s an idea that could help that. What if there was a blog called Absurd Insurance Stories, and people could just submit their own version of the events of some interaction they’ve had with their health insurance company. If you had a site with a submission form, or allowed people to also submit structured data around the insurance, procedure, costs, and payments, it could also provide an interesting public data set.

I think if there was a blog with hundreds or thousands of posts it would really continue to show that the system really doesn’t work for anyone, but is just so embedded people do not question it anymore.

So that is a random idea. Feel free to respond with what you think.
