Doing good work is a pleasurable experience.
We get into trouble when we confuse small parts of the work for the whole, assuming the small part is representative of the entire body of work. If you only see the negative aspects of the small pieces, you might quit.
These things will happen:
- a disagreement with a coworker over the direction of a new project
- falling off the wagon
- having a cheat meal
- having a cheat day
- writing poorly
- performing poorly
- shipping a bad idea
- having a bad day
- technical errors
- human errors
The most important thing is that you remain steady on the path.
Not every bite is pleasurable.
But knowing you have a meal to eat is quite pleasurable indeed.
