Catholic Catechism #003 — Isn’t the Bible Enough?
Overview:
We all have a specific lens through which we read Scripture (or anything for that matter).
Dan uses the example of the Constitution to make his point. The judiciary system in the US was set up to incorporate different viewpoints of how to interpret the constitution to ensure that justice is done.
The point is that there are different viewpoints, not only of what the authors meant but how to apply it to our lives today.
The Biblical text is similar in that way. It was written a long time ago in a different language by and for people who saw the world very differently from the way a 21st century American understands the world.
Is the Bible enough? Yes, But.. I’m not suspicious of the Word of God, I’m suspicious of me. That is why I need to hear many different viewpoints, from different cultural and periodic perspectives.
