This is the analytical report created by us based on the survey of more than 400 students from various campuses across Kerala.

This past couple of months had been miserable for everyone all around the world. It has been a struggling period for most of the industries, but it seems that the Gaming industry has been taking full advantage of the lockdown and people being indoors. Hence the youth are really being attracted to various games across various platforms. The global trend has clearly reflected on the campus students of Kerala too. Online games are filling the void that was created by this lockdown. Entertainment and pleasure have always played a vital part in everyone's life. Now the platforms for entertainment have changed from playgrounds to in front of the pc or gaming console. We surveyed to analyse and understand the orientation of youth concerning mobile games. The survey was conducted in June 2020, during the peak of lockdown. We managed to receive about 400 response across various districts of Kerala. The survey was conducted using google form which was circulated WhatsApp groups. Most of the participants fall in the age group of 18–23.

Major Insights

a) Interest in online games

68% of the youth were interested in playing online games, but the trend is a little bit different among the male youth and the female youth. 78% of the male youth are interested to play online games at the same time only 49% of the female youth are interested in online multiplayer games. From this, we can conclude that most of our campus students are interested in playing online multiplayer games.

b) Companions preferences

It is evident from the survey that irrespective of the gender all youth would like to play the games with their friends. Most of them prefer to play with a random person other than a family member, that may be because they couldn’t find potential companions within their family. There is a considerable percentage of people who are interested to play alone also.

c) Frequency of Gaming

The frequency analysis reveals that most of the youths are interested to invest a large amount of their time in gaming daily. 64% of the youth would like to play the games daily in that also a considerable percentage would like to play multiple times in a day. Almost one-quarter of the total crowd is engaged with these kinds of activities once a week.

d) Top Rated Online Games

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, which is famous as PUBG is the most favourite online game among the youth and the second position is for LUDO then comes the PES. Among the total PUBG lovers, 91% are males and in the LUDO lovers also males are dominating with a percentage of 62. This shows that in all top-rated games the top contribution is given from male youth. Also, we can conclude like the female youth is more interested in LUDO than the top-rated PUBG.

Below listed the top 10 online games in the order as per the survey;

  1. PUGB Mobile
  2. Ludo
  3. Call of Duty Mobile
  4. Free fire
  5. Clash of clans
  6. Mini militia

68% of our youth are interested in online games & they would love to play daily with their friends

Thus the conclusions drawn are gaming competitions held online can have a great impact on the campuses and provide a great opportunity to bond across campuses and open new doors to evangelisation and to preach god.
