JET8 Dev Update — July 5th, 2018
Development progress and product changes from JET8
It’s been a busy few weeks, with changes to the Community Builder, addition of rear camera, changes to publishing flow, improvements, optimisations and team growth!
Apps as a Service
Community Builder
The Community Builder is one of the most rapidly improving parts of our tech. Our efforts revolve around scalability & customisation, not only to provide users with a better experience, but to further allow our community builders to execute their tasks.
One of the areas that has received an improvement that will directly affect benchmarking is auto publishing to Google Play on Android. With this change, the platform is currently adding 5 new apps per week. This number will increase to 50 per week by the end of the year with upcoming improvements.
Community App Store
As with other repositories of large amounts of information, with volume, there can be discoverability issues. To that effect we’re preparing a fully-fledged App Store to help users discover new and relevant communities hassle-free and with ease.
Rear camera, beyond selfies
A small but very relevant change for communities on the app-side is the support for the rear camera. Now the scope of communities JET8 can target goes beyond just selfies — and will allow for much more variety in communities.
Facebook Graph v3 breaking changes
Facebook has planned deprecation of Open Graph on August 1st, in favor of the newly branded Graph v3. In order to be fully compliant, we’re changing the social publish flow and taking advantage of the change to make the experience more user-friendly and transparent.
This new flow, which will also apply to Instagram, will be deployed by the end of July.
Asset Marketplace
We’ve also been working on one of the core experiences in our communities, the asset marketplace. These improvements, which will go live soon will prepare the Asset Marketplace for scale, and avoiding long-term issues with community growth.
Tumblr
In order to focus on our more active publication targets and offer users a better experience, we’ve made the decision to deprecate Tumblr publishing on August 1st. System-level sharing to Tumblr will still be available for legacy users.

Metrics & Reports
Although not immediately visible to communities, there have been important changes to how Metrics & Reports are handled. This brought about significant improvements on the performance of the live report for time ranges over 3 months.
Architecture
After the completion of the migration from monolith core to micro services, we have started deploying different sections step by step. Currently, the dashboard, API, Shop & Workers are deployed in production as independent services.
This will allow us to develop new services and update existing ones more quickly and seamlessly.
Team Growth
Development team growth continues as planned, adding a DevOps, 2 iOS developers, 2 Android developers, and 1 QA. We’re still hiring, so if you’re interested in a position in our Barcelona office, please check https://jet8.io/careers
