Social commerce APP is ready to help save our oceans

The social commerce mobile application, OceansCam, helps spread the ocean conservation message by putting branded content into the hands of citizens and letting them share their positive ocean experiences and messages of concern about the state of the planet and its oceans.
CAPE TOWN, 12 June, 2019 — The JET8 Foundation today announced the launch of a partnership with The Lewis Pugh Foundation that will enable the first social commerce mobile application focused on saving the oceans.
The Lewis Pugh Foundation, founded by endurance swimmer, ocean advocate and UN Patron of the Oceans Lewis Pugh, has partnered with the JET8 Foundation to launch OceansCam. The mission of the Foundation is to protect the world’s oceans, which are threatened by pollution, industrial overfishing and climate change. The foundation has successfully helped create Marine Protected Areas in over two million square km of ocean, and has ongoing campaigns to fully protect even more threatened waters.
The app incorporates JET8’s FinTech technology to reward users for in-app engagement through JETPoints — a social currency with which users can make contributions to the The Lewis Pugh Foundation.

Lewis Pugh is an ocean advocate and endurance swimmer. Over a period of 30 years he has pioneered swims in the most challenging environments on earth, including the Antarctic, the North Pole and the Himalayas, and developed an understanding of the beauty and fragility of life and its many ecosystems. In 2013 the United Nations appointed him as the first UN Patron of the Oceans. He is an adjunct professor in International Law at the University of Cape Town. In 2016 he helped negotiate the creation of the largest protected area in the world, in the Ross Sea off Antarctica.
