Irwin Steinman is a native Staten Islander who attended P. S. 45 and Curtis High School where recently he was inducted into their 15th Annual Hall of Fame. In 1962, he graduated from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania with a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics.

In 2005, Irwin retired as President and CEO of Staten Island Plate Glass Co., Inc. and its affiliated companies. His company worked on important projects including reconditioning of the Statue of Liberty, the building of Staten Island University Hospital and the Heart Institute, SUNY campus at Albany and various projects at Wagner College.

Irwin has been involved in community volunteering over many years at the College of Staten Island, Snug Harbor, SI Community TV as Founding President, Mt. Manresa, the SI Sports Hall of Fame, University Hospice, Staten Island Academy, United Way, the Staten Island Chamber of Commerce, Dongan Hills Improvement Association and Bayley Seton Hospital. In the Jewish community, his involvement has been on the boards of the JCC and Temple Israel Reform Congregation. For his volunteer efforts, Irwin has been honored with CSI’s Dolphin Award, by Snug Harbor Cultural Center, S.I. Community Television, with Wagner College’s CHAI Society Community Award and the Visiting Nurse Association’s Stanley Award to name a few.

Irwin and his wife Linda, an Advance Woman of Achievement, founded Camp Good Grief of Staten Island in 2010, a free weekend camp for children and teens age 7 to 16 grieving a significant loss. Currently, the camp is held twice annually at the JCC. Campers create positive memories, participate in age appropriate activities and experience much more with the shared support of other campers and health professionals.

The Steinmans are the proud parents of 4 children and 8 grandchildren.
