At the most basic level, having a child who is water safe will give you immeasurable peace of mind. Just last week, in fact, public school students came home with with a notice from the city about the importance of water safety.

We cover the basics of floating and treading water, and once campers conquer the fundamentals they go on to master how to move with grace and efficiency through the cool, silky water. With expert attention from our instructors, children develop confidence in the pool and come away with a lifelong love of the sport.

SIJCC Campers swim twice a day; one session is instructional and the other free swim. Pool time is so much fun that kids don’t even realize they are learning along the way. The joy starts the moment campers enter the pool for a swim test and receive color-coded caps — a system that lets lifeguards know a camper’s skill level with one glance.

SI JCC Camp uses the proven instructional techniques of the Lenny Krayzelburg Swim Academy. The school was started in 2005 by four-time Olympic Gold Medalist Lenny Krayzelburg, with the core purpose to ensure children be water safe.

Our certified instructors utilize the swim-float-swim technique as the foundation, and focus on providing children with the knowledge of confidence and safety in and around the water. From these basic skills, children develop from the early stages of swimming all the way to learning freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly. Many campers leave ready to join their school’s swim team in the fall.

If children learn how to swim at a young age, they will enjoy the water for a lifetime. Swimming feels good on joints, gets fresh air in the lungs and boosts the mood.

At Camp, children deepen their friendships during swim time. You only need to hear the laughter and happy noises coming from our pool to know this is summertime well spent.

The best way to become a swimmer is by taking refuge from the sun in a refreshing pool, showing off new skills and playing with friends.

In other words, a day in the life at SIJCC Camp.
