Type: Interactive Screen, Mobile App

Timeline: 2 Weeks (Nov.2018)

Methods: User Research, Persona, Journey Map, Storyboard, Prototype, Usability Test

Team: Individual Project

01 Overview

To provide better museum experience, I have designed a mobile app and an interactive table to help them navigate, attain information and recall this journey after they go back home.

This is an individual assignment of an online UX course.

04 Desk Research

Current Situation

The descriptions of exhibits in the museums are monotonous and boring. The public screens in some museums are not utilized.

Tendency

· Smartphones have become the most important media for museums to provide various services.

· Indoor positioning technology enables museums to provide unique information and services based on visitors’ locations.

· Some museums consider setting up “maker space” where visitors can involve.

05 User Research

I went to the Museum of the Mausoleum of the Nanyue King to observe the visitors’ behaviours and interviewed one of them as well as my friends.

AFFINITY MAP

I used the affinity map to organise the information from the interview so that I could find generalities for the persona.

User Journey Map

06 Usability Testing

Purpose

· whether it can help users find the exhibits quickly;

· whether the information and interaction match users’ needs;

· what do users think of making postcard on the screen

Tasks

1. Choose a route and find the exhibit with AR navigation.

2. Browse the information of exhibits and 3D model

3. Choose one exhibit to make a postcard

4. Choose to deliver the postcard

Methods

User 1

Reflection

· Postcards editing will not be available on the mobile phone, because the screen is quite small, and we want to encourage communication and interaction among visitors around the screens.

· Emojis are funny and can help users express their emotions. Handwriting looks more natural.

User 2

Reflection

· I need to check the cost to ensure the quality and the price is not too expensive. Before that, users can choose to get their edited postcards in the shop or by delivery.

· Special stamp adds more meanings to the postcard.

Next Step

· Change filter into emoji in the edit tool

· Provide some handwriting fonts

· Add a special stamp of each museum
