Locke & Key Watching Notes (season 1)
This is my exercise to write anything I think of when watching TV to keep my mind in active mode. Not all plots will be mentioned, and Spoiler Alert.
Episode 1
A common start in this kind of drama, that a mystery event happens, and the viewers not have the cause yet.
A single house outside the town, it’s good for many bad things to happen, and Tyler says “It’s also a little more Norman Bates.” Very funny.
Duncan gives Bode a misinterpretation of the middle finger, it’s hilarious.
Bode can use Anywhere Key alone, but can’t with Kinsey, this will uncover some hidden rules. Another common rule is that the weird things can be seen by one character alone in the beginning, such as Echo.
The Mirror Key effect is scaring. Is the Nina comes back the same Nina?
Episode 2
Echo is hot and evil, don’t know why she kills a guy.
Scot is very annoying, I don’t like this guy. Kinsey’s defensive posture against Scot is a good performance.
Ellie shows another common rule, strange things already happened in the town.
Why Bode is so brave to use Head key on himself? He’s a kid.
Episode 3
Echo is so cold-blooded, she has no mercy on a kid, although I don’t like that kid, too. The key in the beginning mystery event shows up, but no more detail revealed.
Scot is still annoying, he angers me very much.
Kinsey’s memories are too organized, and Tyler says even her brain is a control freak, hahaha. Don’t know why the monster Kinsey attacks Tyler.
Ghost key reveals a little more past of this town.
Kinsey use Head key to drag something out and bury it, it seems the monster Kinsey.
Episode 4
I don’t like Kinsey’s change, maybe some side effects will occur later?
Ellie reveals to Nina that bad things happened to most of Rendell’s friends. Such a horror convention, and a sealed basement room? Very suitable for this story.
Kinsey tells stupid Scot too many things, this is not interesting.
Actually, no new key discovered in this episode.
Episode 5
It’s turn for Tyler and Kinsey to find a key, before this, we may think only Bode can find keys.
Gabe is as annoying as Scot, why Kinsey gets all these shits? She’s also a shit.
Although Kinsey and her stupid friends make this episode boring, more mysteries revealed.
Episode 6
Tyler retreats from the key things, very ironic to his big brother attitude. The annoying thing to the viewers is that Kinsey with her friends take the lead on finding answers.
Sam uses the Matchstick Key, the key first shows up in the beginning of episode 1, to escape prison, we know a little more about this key.
A strange gate in a sea cave, this makes me so curious, I can ignore Kinsey and her friends.
Episode 7
It’s sweet to see Kinsey and Bode work together.
No surprise that Sam has a bad dad.
Echo hooks up with Tyler, but Tyler takes Anywhere Key from her. Stupid devil, haha.
The whole plot of Sam is tense and exciting, although he’s a pitiful guy.
Episode 8
Lucas shows up in Ellie’s house, if he’s the real one, he shouldn’t be so young.
Now, Nina remembers everything about the keys, don’t know why yet. Maybe because she touched a key?
Wow, Dodge, aka Echo, can change her form to Lucas.
Episode 9
Things Dodge did in Lucas form revealed now.
The monster Kinsey is still out there, don’t know why.
Kinsey reveals herself to Eden honestly, and they are good now. A very true emotional transition.
Ellie tells more things about what happened in the past. The demon came from the omega door, what’s more inside it?
Ellie goes to get the crown by herself, an idiotic move.
Episode 10
Bode’s Don Quijote spear is glowing, he didn’t turn it on before.
I learned a new term “FOMO”.
It’s a little buggy about Identity Key, that if Dodge can use it to change herself to anyone’s look, why doesn’t she use this power to get the key she wants? I found a comment saying “This key does not appear in the graphic novels. It is a combination of the Skin Key and Gender Key, but was created specifically for the Netflix adaptation.” I understand why it’s not reasonable.
Conclusion
I enjoy this TV series, the mysteries and the magical keys, and maybe I will read the comics. The article linked below mentioned that the keys are more well explored in comics, and the show is too rush on this.
