How we spent our (not ready for Labor) Day Weekend
Adrienne and I were back in the hospital this week for another fluid-related procedure and more monitoring. Outlook for the next several weeks is to wait and see: We’re hopeful the balloon can stay in through mid September and that Baby Girl stays in until mid to late October.
Adrienne is doing well after a roller-coaster couple of days. She went in for her scheduled appointment Thursday and confirmed what we suspected: Her amniotic fluid levels were again too high and she needed to undergo another procedure to have some of it removed.
The procedure is fascinating. It happens under sonogram guidance, so we can see the needle that drains the fluid as it goes in right next to the baby. Just like she did last time, Baby Girl grabbed that needle. Doctors assured us this is perfectly fine, but of course we were on edge watching it in real time.
One outcome associated with the procedure is an increased risk for early contractions and preterm labor. We started seeing the contractions in the early afternoon Friday and they got progressively worrisome throughout the evening. The doctors said they might need to remove the balloon if things didn’t quiet down. They upped the medicines to treat contractions and thankfully things did start to settle down.
As of Saturday, everyone was feeling a lot better about the outlook than they were on Friday afternoon.
The next several weeks are sure to be unpredictable, so we are doing best to stay positive and patient.
