Discarding AMP and applying instant.page
Although many of my personal idols disagree with Google’s delinquency in the informatics era, my stand on AMP is actually relatively neutral. Because if for the sake of performance, why not? Especially if the application step is quite easy thanks to the instant solution that Paul Ford cum suis offered. Only by applying one link tag, the AMP icon immediately appears in the search results for a number of my sites.
The problem comes when the AMP page URL which output by Mercury is deemed incorrect according to Google Search Console standards. Not to mention the markup structure that is not yet optimal — and I am too lazy to edit — leading to the appearance of AMP pages that tend to be less communicative than the vanilla HTML version.
Instead of limping and becoming a servant to just one search engine — I diligently moved between DuckDuckGo, Yandex and Bing who didn’t get any AMP benefits — so I decided to abandon AMP for the moment.
Instead, I now use instant.page 2.0 which, incidentally, is also quite easy to implement via a line of javascript tag. I personally am too lazy to measure acceleration especially in the matter of milliseconds, but for the sake of performance every effort even though it is small is very meaningful.
