This newsletter I’m trying something different. More and more I’m finding that good content comes from good writers. Obvious, I know. But the more I use Matter, the more I notice that a few good writers makes all the difference. Pre Matter, I randomly roamed the internet looking for good stuff. Now, my favorite writers work comes right to me.

What’s the point of all this? I’m including separate links for writers, in addition to the link to their article. My hope is that if you like an article, you can check out the author and follow them however you do so. Let me know what you think!

In other news, my Viking article, which I’ve been talking about forever and thinking about for longer, is getting major updates. Being back in my hometown of Fishers, Indiana lit up some fuses in my brain. Mostly, it made me realize how hypocritical I am. I hem and haw about folks nostalgia while I carry a giant bag of it around when it comes to where I’m from. You’ll hear more about that later. For now, enjoy the links!

  1. Fast, Cheap, and Out of Control: Inside Shein’s Sudden Rise by Vauhini Vara — Shein is the biggest $100 billion dollar company I’ve never heard of. A giant unicorn hiding in plain sight. Read the article to see whether the hiding unicorn will grow fast or fall fast.
  2. Maybe you should do less ‘work’ by John Whiles — We all work a lot. I love this article because it pokes at what we consider work. Does taking an online course to improve your skills count? This author argues it should.
  3. DraftKings To Launch Social Media Product In An Effort To Annoy Me by Jeff Edelstein — I wasn’t expecting it, but this is one of the funniest articles I’ve read in a long time. Nice thoughts about the state of social media in there to boot.
  4. How I take smart digital notes by Ramses Oudt — The 5th part of a stunning series I’m binging. Lovely stuff for those looking to connect their reading to their work.
  5. 159 — Sam Checa by Ryan Gilbert — My FAVORITE NEWSLETTER. Every Saturday and Sunday I pounce on it and devour it. Almost ASMR levels of soothing. Like if HGTV met remote work.
