AI Art
Suck at art? Just automate it with AI
Who needs skills to be an artist anyway? All you need is your browser and a prompt
As a kid, I always wanted to be an artist. Well, that’s a lie, actually I wanted to be an ice-cream man, but artist was high up there on the list. But I didn’t really have an artistic bone in my body. I still don’t.
But I never let a total lack of talent stop me before — why start now? For the past few days I’ve been playing around with DiscoArt and generating stunning artworks in my browser in minutes.
A picture’s worth a thousand words, so I’ll stop blabbing and show you some of what it can do:
How do I get started?
All you need to do is open the notebook and start running the cells. Some things to bear in mind:
- Set hardware accelerator to GPU under Runtime > Change runtime type if it’s not set already.
- By default, Disco Art generates 4 images at once in 1024x768 resolution. You can speed things up by reducing
n_batches
(number of batches) andwidth_height
. Read more by running thecheatsheet()
cell. - For experimenting, I typically go with 1 batch at 512x384 or similar — that gives you results fast, but it’s not good for creating stunning hi-res artwork.
- If you play with it too long, you WILL blow through your Colab GPU limits and have to wait til the next day to use it again. Consider this a feature, not a bug. We don’t want you getting too addicted (yet).
What are some good prompts?
Unlike DALL-E, Disco excels with long detailed prompts. So instead of something like cthulhu covered in slime
, a better prompt might be A hyper-detailed realistic portrait of Cthulhu, master of the old gods, his twisting tentacles dripping thick ectoplasm from the dawn of time. Trending on Artstation
