The global Jiu Jitsu community is vast. The techniques shared on and off the mat transcend any language or cultural divide.

Recently I’ve made the decision to apply these techniques to other aspects of my life, and that landed me here on Medium.

The Why for the What

I started Jiu Jitsu Lifestyle, simply because I was seeking a publication to read about the intellectual side of Jiu Jitsu, and couldn’t find one.

After training for a couple of years, I began to realize how profound the depth of Jiu Jitsu philosophy actually could be. Hungry for more of this, I searched the most obvious place these days, the Internet.

The good stuff was few and far between, and never concentrated in one place. Either individuals like myself trying to get perspective out on their own, or a particular school or association’s blog designed around drawing and retaining students.

So why not create one?

All Perspectives Are Welcome

As with any open mat, you are not limited in what you want to train. All thoughts and perspectives are welcome. Some topics I look forward to seeing are as follows:

  • Success Stories
  • Failure Stories
  • Affects of Jiu Jitsu off the mat
  • Philosophy
  • Sharing Techniques
  • New Perspectives

If you practice Jiu Jitsu to any degree, you already know how it shapes your outlook. With that in mind, its influence spreads into areas of our lives you wouldn’t necessarily associate with training at all. We want to read about that too.

This is an extension of your Jiu Jitsu Community: Consider that your audience is your training partner. Treat them with the same care and respect that you would expect in the Academy. Remember that you can’t train and develop without one another.

I will be reviewing articles for grammar and formatting corrections before publishing, out of respect for the audience. I’m still a white belt at that as well, so take care to review before submitting. It will be a collaborative process.

That’s it for the warm-up!

If you're interested in developing your writing skills along with your training partners, leave your Medium @ in the comments and I will add you as a writer.

If you're just here for the articles, enjoy this free publication.

If you are new to the idea of Medium, reach out and I’ll be glad to help.

Happy Training!
