The main contributor to climate change is large corporations. These companies use extractions, treatments, and the use of fossil fuels. “A recently published report identified that 100 energy companies have been responsible for 71% of all industrial emissions since human-driven climate change was officially recognized.” It’s mind-blowing to understand that only 100 companies are responsible for the energy sector. The top 15 of these companies are a part of the food and beverage industry. These companies are generating “630 million metric tons of greenhouse gases every year.”

The world is currently on a climate change clock. Large companies that are impacting our environment need to help. WeWork recently banned their employees from the meat industry. “This new policy is estimated to save 445.1m pounds of CO2 emissions and 15,507,103 animals by 2023, but it has been met with some stark criticism. Avoiding meat has a personal environmental impact. Even though the WeWork company cannot control their environmental impact, reducing their meat intake makes a difference. As a vegetarian, I do understand the importance of this change. Over 2,000 gallons of water are used to produce one pound of meat, while it only takes 25 gallons of water to grow a pound of wheat. Also, nearly half of all the water used in the United States raises animals for food. When people go vegan or vegetarian, they are significantly helping the environment by reducing their carbon footprint and saving water.

Large companies such as Levi Strauss & Co, Starbucks, and Ricola — — are using their resources to reduce their carbon footprint. I believe that we should be taxing companies that are not contributing to the cause. Ways I want to execute my plan is by informing people on Instagram and Twitter and or even making Tik Tok on why it’s vital to reduce our carbon footprint or going vegetarian. People need to be informed about what’s happening globally and, more importantly, what they are consuming.
