Censorship and The Problems It Faces

Censorship on social media is something that we haven't been able to formally address as a whole. I think that platforms are overly cautious when it comes to what gets posted and what the public sees. In most cases, this helps with hate speech and fake news but in another way, it hurts people by prohibiting them from sharing what is important to them.

I think the policy should be more based on being able to tag posts as something that could be viewed as inappropriate to some. This could allow users to share what they want to share with an audience that has the final decision on whether or not they wanted to view it. Censorship is an issue seen in so many different ways and yet people still bundle it together as if hate speech and seeing forms of nudity. They are very different types and should be handled differently.

Platforms could introduce a new system that could separately address all forms of censorship and more effectively keep the internet free of what shouldn’t be there and create a new way of finding a balance.
