JMS 215 Post 6

I think the whole Huxley story is just absurd. I remember seeing tons of posts on my own Instagram from other influencers that I follow and remember being curious about what the hashtag was that kept circulating on my social media. When I learned about the situation that was happening, I was shocked but also had so many questions. If the family did indeed adopt a special needs child from China in order to make a large profit, which seems like it, ethically, that’s horrible to do to a person; let alone a child. Also, after learning about the story, to me, it seems like Huxley had a lot more issues than expected and then they just gave him up very easily, however, the family walked into this situation KNOWING he had some special needs, just did not know or even understand the extent of them. It doesn’t seem like they went to a specialist, therapist, or even took parenting classes for children with special needs in order to help themselves, their adopted child, and their own biological children. There are so many resources that the Stauffer family refused to use and decided to rehome an adopted child. Which, even though looking at the full story, it is probably way better for the child to be in a different home instead of using used as a pretty picture for the money. However, I can’t even imagine the trauma for that child, to know that a family had picked you and loved you, then because you are too difficult because you don't even understand what is happening with yourself, you get placed with a new family. Another burning question I have is, if one of their own biological children was going through the same special needs, same issues, and the same level of autism, would that child also be taken to a different home? Or would the family take the proper training and use of resources in order to continue to love and care for their child? I think that is what bothers me the most, Huxley has always been disposable to them. I only have high hopes for Huxley moving forward and genuinely hope he is with a super caring and loving family, which they were extremely compassionate to take this child home under the absurd circumstances. I hope he makes great strives in his young life and can properly heal from someone else’s mistakes, especially mistakes that were not his own doing.
