My Thoughts on the Fight Over TikTok

I have been using TikTok for many years, I have been on the app since before it was called TikTok. So, that being said I may have a bit more bias on the subject than most responding to the prompt. I personally think that this entire thing is ridiculous. Trump started this whole crusade to ban TikTok after GenZ pulled the best prank in history on him and bought a bunch of tickets to his rally, and then no one showed up. If TikTok is a national security threat, then take down Snapchat, Facebook, Instagram, and Trumps’ precious Twitter. Social media is a tool that we use to span physical distance and connect with people from other countries that we would never have met otherwise, it allows us to keep in contact with others in this crazy Covid riddled world. I understand that TikTok is more of a youtube type app where you just share and watch versus interact, but there is still loads of collaboration, and creativity that is born on this app and I would be very sad to see Cheeto mand ego get in the way of such a creative space. I think that the idea of keeping an American company in charge of all of the US user data isn't a bad idea, but even if that doesn't work out, I do not think that our access to this app should not be affected or restricted.
