Social media platforms have struggled with censoring posts. Ideally, we should be censoring posts because there are children on the app. Though Instagram and Facebook are created for people 13 and above. Many children find ways to access these accounts. Since the rise of the global pandemic, cyber-bullying has made an impact on adolescence. Young adults have been exposed to violence, hate crimes, and nudity. Being exposed to these elements allows young teens to grow up too fast. Social media transformed this generation to value sex over relationships. It also developed new forms of sex working. Currently, Onlyfans is a trending website. At first, it was developed for young aspiring artists to prompt their work. Soon after it was transformed to become an adult website. Situations like this should be censored on the internet.
At the peak of the Black Lives Matter movement hate speech was all over the internet. Either if you are for or against the movement; negativity is surrounding the internet. The peak of the movement was a very sensitive time for America. Even I had to delete my social media because I could not handle the backlash I was receiving. Social media was controlled by extremists for the movement and white supremacy. During the movement, there was very little censorship anywhere. This put a lot of fear in my younger siblings and even me. For situations like pornography and hate crimes should be censored off the internet. There should be a form of policy of guidelines that will enforce the rule before you post. Doing so many people would not be losing their jobs for past mistakes. Or even risking their career for sharing their thoughts or ideas.
