Week 2 Post
I would say that I would like to use all new portions of social media, but I know that in a realistic sense, I am a creature of habit. I use instagram frequently for browsing, but now that I am out of high school and I don’t have things like prom and spirit days and Friday night lights to post about, it is a rare occasion for me to post there. My snapchat is populated with screenshots of my Spotify in hopes that my mutuals will pick up my music taste, however, it somehow feels different to post on instagram stories. They work the same, yet I really only use Instagram stories to repost others material. I think this works great in a journalistic sense for urgent stories because IG stories only last 24 hours, so an urgent call to action or a limited time link goes great on your story. I never posted on TikTok, even when I had an account, and I don’t even have one anymore because it was such a time-suck, and I think that same stalker-type browsing will transfer over to IG reels. It doesn’t feel as addictive as TikTok, and even if I liked it half as much as I did TikTok at my bingeing peak, I still wouldn’t post on it. I think it’s the content that I don’t love as much. It’s so many viral trends that I just can’t see myself doing as an adult, going to school and working two jobs. I am also in the awkward inbetween part of Gen Z where I hate Facebook, have never posted on TikTok, and don’t use my Linkdin. It’s hard for me to participate in new parts of social media when I am such a creature of habit when it comes to my posting behaviors. Whether it’s because I don’t do much that’s interesting enough to post about, or I just don’t really care to keep up on my personal social media appearances, I feel like there would have to be a really big pull for me to venture into a new feature of social media, especially of one I don’t use all the time.
