Weekly Post 4

I think this video’s purpose is much more comedic than to actually make a real difference. I think this story is effective at calling out a specific group of people, like you said. However, I don’t know if it would actually get people to wear masks. I find it funny because I hear a lot of people around my age using similar language and its funny to hear Paul Rudd use it so awkwardly, yet so perfectly to make fun of it. But if I were a millennial hype beast, I would probably just be mad at Paul Rudd and continue not to care, unless he really did convince them that “caring for other people is the new not caring for other people”. I think it’s probably less effective because people will feel more called out for being a millennial hype beast than for not wearing a mask. It doesn’t really feel like a lecture from a boomer, because Paul Rudd isn’t a boomer, at least I don’t think he is. It feels more like a general call out like, “We have to speak in their dumb internet language to get through to them.” But either way, I love Paul Rudd and I like the video. I just don’t think it is really going to get people to wear masks.
