Weekly Post Eight

The story of the Tofte family is heartbreaking, especially because it is apparent that they are not the only ones to go through this. With wildfire spread across the U.S., many families are in dire need of help and resources.

A family member of mine has a small cabin near Crystal Lakes in Colorado and was fortunate enough to have time to evacuate. A few days ago I saw one of their neighbors posted on Facebook offering their trailers to anyone that needed them in order to get their belongings and animals out safely. Things like this, even though they seem small, can help tremendously. Social media can be a very harmful place, but there are great things that come from it. I believe that the Tofte family may have had a different ending if there was more time to use social media. By sharing missing person information and putting together a search party, Wyatt and his grandmother could have been found sooner and possibly saved.

By simply reaching out to others and offering anything you can, could make a tremendous impact on someone’s life. By sharing information, offering meals, and giving resources to community help can ultimately save lives. The platform of social media gives the opportunity to reach out and help people within and without your community.
