The input of the companies who were the first to use Joan proved an essential part of Joan’s development, including some of the largest corporations in the world, among them Microsoft, Hyundai, Greenpeace, Dreamworks, The Huffington Post and Dell.

Joan Meeting Room Assistant is a next generation room booking device, the product of invaluable user input which shaped the door label’s functionality and features. As proof of this agile development approach, Joan has been awarded with the Red Dot, the international distinction for high design quality.

The Red Dot award represents the latest recognition of Joan’s features, joining the CES 2016 Innovation Award that the door label already received for its eco design.

Red Dot for best product design, chosen among over 5200 entries

With more than 17,000 entries in 2015, the Red Dot Design Award is one of the largest competitions in the world. Organized by the Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen in Essen, Germany, the award is broken down into the three distinct disciplines: the Red Dot Award: Communication Design, Red Dot Award: Design Concept, and the Red Dot Award: Product Design.

Joan has won the Red Dot Award for Product Design in the Interior Design Elements category, standing out among some 5,200 products by participants from 57 nations.

It is in the latter discipline that Joan proved triumphant, winning best Product Design in the Interior Design Elements category, and standing out among over 5,200 products from 57 countries entered in this year’s competition.

The independent expert panel of 41 judges, the largest jury in the history of the competition, selected among designers, design professors and specialised journalists assessed each entry in person, according to criteria such as degree of innovation, formal quality, functionality and ecological compatibility. Only products which set themselves apart considerably through their excellent design received the sought-after quality seal from the Red Dot jury.

Comments professor Dr. Peter Zec, founder and president of the Red Dot Award: “With their performances, the Red Dot winners not only demonstrated an extraordinary design quality, but they also showed that design is an integral part of innovative product solutions.”

Feedback from the world’s largest companies

A lean product development process, Joan’s design saw clients get involved in defining the meeting room label’s functionality and design from it’s inception onwards. The input of the companies and individuals using Joan proved an essential part of Joan’s development, resulting in a digital scheduling solution which is beautiful in its simplicity and tailored to users’ needs.

Without any buttons, clean and uncluttered, Joan connects with the online calendars already in use, allowing for room reservation online or at the meeting room door. Connecting over existing Wi-Fi, Joan has no cables and features a battery life of several months on a single charge, using 99% less energy than comparable solutions.

In developing these features, customer input proved invaluable, especially that of Joan’s early adopters, companies across the globe who were among the first to use the door label. This included some of the largest corporations in the world, among them Microsoft, Hyundai, Greenpeace, Dreamworks, The Huffington Post and Dell, providing insight into Joan’s functionality and features.

This feedback allowed for quick and efficient insight into user needs, creating a well of information about how to enhance Joan’s functions and design, and creating a product that is, above all, demand driven and suited to the user.
