Drawing/sketching is not easy or a gift, but rather a skill. If you lack in this skill, but what to show off. This technique is perfect and be prepared to amaze your friends and family at what a good artist you are! I will be demonstrating the technique to create a sketch from a photo on a paper texture. So, that it looks realistic and then you can print it out, frame it and gift your friends.

Steps:

  1. Open your Image/Photo in PS and duplicate the background. (CTRL + J)
  2. On the new layer, then goto Image->Adjustments and select “Desaturate”.
  3. Then duplicate the new desaturated layer and invert it (CTRL+I) and change the blending options to “Color Dodge”.
  4. Then right click on the layer and select “Convert to Smart Object”.
  5. Next, goto Filters->Blur and select “Gaussian Blur” and adjust the radius approximately to 20 pixels.
  6. Download the paper texture image and open in PS.
