5 things making our world better this week: Boxed wine is cool now?? Also, Earth Day

TGIF, am I right? It’s time to give yourself the gift of a few carefree minutes of procrastination, courtesy of Jobbatical’s weekly roundup of Very Important Things. Today we’re preparing for Earth Day, avoiding burnout, and—as always—looking at cats, because this is the internet and there are rules.

Boring old Earth. Yawn. [Image by solarseven via Shutterstock]

A planet is for life, not just for Christmas.

It looks like the TRAPPIST-1 solar system isn’t the home away from home humanity had been hoping to find. So we’re going to have to hold on to the one habitable planet we do have, while it is habitable. Great. Boring old Earth. Ugh. Fine. In preparation for Earth Day (April 22), join NASA’s #AdoptThePlanet project. If we’re stuck on this rock, we might as well give a shit about it.

It’s time to drink outside the box.

Wine is a bit of a recurring theme over here at Jobbatical’s Friday Roundup Corner. This weekend, we’ll be drinking it out of a box, for all the reasons this Lifehacker article lists. There are so many!

Yes, it’s cats again. Deal with it.

Firstly, I’m a bit upset that it never occurred to me that studying cat videos was a viable career option. Secondly, some clever people to whom this did occur have found that “yes, people did tend to view “internet cats” during work or while studying, but they felt better after looking at them.” What a time to be alive!

There’s an app for that.

If you think you might be drinking a bit too much boxed wine and looking at one too many cat pictures, don’t worry. Kicking bad habits is something your smartphone can help you do. Unless, of course (as one commenter also points out over at Lifehacker), excessive use of your phone is the habit you’re looking to kick.

Feel the burn.

Are you a human being with a job? Congratulations, you’re probably on the verge of burning out. This Inc. article helps you identify the warning signs of burnout and tells you how to fight it. (Or you could just join Jobbatical and get a better job halfway across the planet. Just sayin’.)
