We kicked off the year already with some notes on resume writing. We would like to take it even further this month by giving you some top FREE resources. Apart from getting a good rest, take some time off to update or redo your CV altogether this Labor Day.

Writing your CV should not be that hard in this 21st century. That’s why it’s utterly disappointing to a recruiter when they receive a badly written one. Your CV gets you a foot in the door. Your interview gets you the job. You can’t afford to mess it up.

Did you know you can even use free resume builders online and just download your formatted CV or just download a template and edit it? But first, be sure to check our previous article on what you should consider when writing your CV.

One of the biggest recruiting trends in the past 5 years has been 1 page CVs. In a world where recruiters spend at least 15 seconds on your resume, catching someone’s attention is paramount. And a one-page CV does this so well. Worried that it may be hard to demonstrate all your prowess on 1 page? Relax. The CV, just like the cover letter, is meant to pique someone’s interest and then invite you for the interview. It’s like a Tinder Profile. Short but enough to let you decide if you want to take it to the next level. And for this, we have the best tool. Canva!

Canva

We love Canva for all it has to offer design-wise. Canva is an online platform for people who are looking for design inspiration & software. Canva has over 100 FREE Resume Template Designs for you to choose from. You can do 1 page or even more. It’s easy to use and will give your CV a fresh look other than the boring white page. Remember though, the most critical thing in your CV is your information, not the glitter. So we advise going for a subtle design with a lot of white and some shades of color to just spice it up. Sign up for free, select a resume template, edit it, and download it for free as PDF. You can convert it online to Word format.

Behance

For those looking for an extra eye for design, Behance can be a good choice. Behance is a platform for designers who share their work. You can get inspiration for your CV design or even stumble upon free goodies. Do check it out.
