And I’m a Product Scientist at Medium.
I’ve been at Medium just over 2 years.
I joined Medium because I wanted to work with the product side of a business and wanted that product to be something I believed in. I love reading and believe that the more people are exposed to stories different than their own, the more empathetic and understanding they become. I also was really impressed with the Product Science team during my interview process and how thoughtful they were about using data in an ethical way.
My favorite thing is how varied the work can be. We don’t have a big data team so you get to work through a lot of different problems. I also really like how everyone is very thoughtful about the product we are building. …
And I’m an Engineer at Medium.
I’ve been at Medium for 2.5 amazing years.
Definitely the people. The interview process showed me a lot about how this team cares about making sure you feel included, not just that you can code, which is a lot different than how other companies approach hiring.
It is still the people! Everyone here is open to feedback and continuous improvement, and communicates with empathy. I’ve also been able to learn so much from other engineers here, and grown a lot technically.
Everyone is welcome to bring ideas to the table. Engineers are given the autonomy to make decisions, and give feedback to product and design. …
And I’m on the Finance and Accounting team at Medium.
I’ve been at Medium for 2.5 of the best years of my life. You better believe that.
I joined because I come from a country where the voices of young people are usually suppressed and one should only speak when spoken too (I want to note though that things are changing now), and Medium gave me the opportunity to have a voice (even though I have never written anything on Medium, yet 😬).
I appreciate the freedom to make mistakes and learn from them. …
And I’m a Designer at Medium.
I’ve been working at Medium for six months.
I wanted to contribute to Medium’s mission of building a space for writing, learning, and sharing ideas.
The company culture reflects the product in that we’re encouraged to applaud each other’s work and share our ideas.
This story. It’s honest and speaks to the human condition.
And I’m the Executive Assistant to the CEO at Medium.
I’ve been at Medium for 3.5 years.
I deeply believe in what we are trying to build. Medium has something essential in common with my life in the performing arts: it enables a community of readers and writers that we need, which like the performing arts, is essential to a well-rounded society. It’s delivering full strength content in a world of watered down distractions.
Learning the ins and outs of a start-up!
This one cut me to the core. It made me feel like I was not alone during a period after a hard breakup.
I have confidence to dream big for myself and what I can and want to do.
And I’m a Deputy Editor at Medium.
I’ve been at Medium for 4.5 months.
I believe in creating opportunities for anyone and everyone to write and reach an audience, I love the combination of high-end journalism and blogging (rarely do you see both in one place!), and I love to build the biggest possible things.
I see writing move people here, in ways that I haven’t at other publications. In the comments, on Twitter, even in our internal Slack…Medium publishes powerful stories that reach and affect an audience, every single day. That’s very cool.
Anthony Bourdain died a few weeks after I started at Medium, and seeing this piece from a writer on the Medium platform so clearly articulated to me why I wanted to work here. It was just so good, so much better than so much else out there, and it just showed up! …
And I’m an Engineer at Medium.
I’ve been working at Medium for three months.
I joined Medium because I believe that the world needs to be smarter. We need people to read more than a tweet at a time and we need a place where we can look at issues in long form.
The company culture really promotes an awareness of self that I simply haven’t seen in any other workplace. There’s such curiosity about the technical stuff — that’s to be expected, but there’s also a deep curiosity about what makes a good person, what makes a kind person. …
And I’m on the Editorial team at Medium.
I’ve been at Medium for 9 months now.
I joined Medium because I truly believed in its mission to bring thoughtful and high quality writing back to the internet — no advertising, no clickbait, no cheap tricks.
It’s so rare to find a workplace where I feel encouraged and supported in bringing my whole self to work. The emphasis on strength in vulnerability and on personal growth is so inspiring. I feel like working at Medium has not only grown my editorial skills, but helped me grow as a person!
There are way too many to choose from, but one of my recent favorites is this guide to buying fruit. It’s the most poetic grocery list you’ve ever seen.
The more I learn about digital publishing, the more I realize I still have to learn!
And I’m a Senior Editor at Medium.
I’ve been at Medium since May 2018.
I joined Medium for two main reasons: one, to work on the kind of thoughtful stories that readers can’t stop thinking about, the kind they bring up at a cocktail party saying, ‘Hey, I read this fascinating story this week about…’ And two, I was just so excited to join a company that is tackling the challenges of the media industry head on, taking risks and rethinking the model.
I love the amount of care that goes into our decision-making, and yet the spirit of experimentation and joie de vivre that goes along with our hard work. …
And I’m an Engineer at Medium.
I’ve been at Medium for just over a year.
I’m super passionate about the power of writing. I was head of the sports section at my college newspaper, and I realized not only how much I love writing but how great it felt to reach a wide audience with my pieces. Getting to work on a platform that not only has an incredible editor but also elevates diverse voices around the world was a chance I couldn’t pass up.
The wide-reaching impact. One of the coolest parts about being a small company with huge impact is that it’s possible to ship products quickly, gather loads of insights because your product is used by so many users, and make decisions about how to move forward. As an example, my most recent work has been around Medium’s Daily Digest, which gets sent to around 4 million users per day. …
