The sharing of ideas and experiences is what moves humanity forward. We’re looking for a designer to help us shape the future of Medium. We’re a stable and growing startup in the heart of San Francisco founded by the folks who created and built Blogger and Twitter.

You’ll work alongside a talented design team driven to create the next communication platform. We work hard, sweat the details, and celebrate our progress with our teammates every Friday.

We work for our writers and readers

We approach design with an empathetic and holistic view. Design doesn’t start and stop in Sketch. We whiteboard, we prototype, we iterate, and we get feedback from real people. We take pride in our accomplishments, but continuously aspire for more elegant solutions for our writers and readers alike.

Creativity through constraint

We strive to make Medium the most meaningful and delightful reading and writing experience possible. In order to do so, we’ve taken an altogether different approach to digital publishing. We believe authors should have enough control to publish thought-provoking pieces without being bogged down in type and color choices but rather focus on the overall composition of their message. We enable creativity through constraint. We value tasteful, transparent typography.

We want the world’s most passionate designers

You’re passionate about designing a beautiful and appropriate product. Ideally, you’ve shipped mobile and/or web products and can proudly point us to them. You live and breathe design but find balance in life beyond the screen. You thrive when you’re working with a small team in a fast-paced environment.

This position is located at our head office in San Francisco, California (but we’re happy to consider people from around the world who are willing to relocate).
