Should I do an MBA?

Have you ever wondered, if an MBA Degree is a necessity? Perhaps you want to be a part of a start-up, or want to work for a company, do you think an MBA Degree will help you work better?
Wait, if motivation is what you need, some of it awaits you!
“Baby steps count, as long as you are going forward. You add them all up, and one day you look back and you’ll be surprised at where you might get to.” said Chris Gardner.
He’s an American entrepreneur, Founder, and CEO of Gardner Rich and Co. He’s one man out of many, who made it on top, without acquiring an MBA Degree, he had his own set of struggles, and has accomplished quite a lot in the years gone by! To say, he is now an inspiration to a lot of MBA aspirants and Graduates.
I’m not sure if you have come across the book, ‘The Pursuit of Happiness” or watched the movie starring Will Smith (a renowned actor and personality in the U.S). The story line puts people in touch with Chris Gardner’s life and accomplishments.

Are you wondering why I mentioned Mr. Gardner?
Well, he’s one among the few people who managed to build his own firm, without a degree to back him up. He had no knowledge about the established ways that are taught in a Business school, and yet learnt it all, by working.
But seriously! It’s not an easy task, and you can’t really take the risk of waiting and finding out if the MBA Degree will be of any help or not.
It’s not wrong if you think you can make it through without acquiring an MBA Degree?
But hold it right there!
Let me tell you about the importance of an MBA Degree and you can then make a confirmed decision after reading on the subject.
1. Why not just get an MBA Degree?
Well if you are confused, why not just look it up online? What’s stopping you?
You will know whether your interest lies here or not after weighing the pros and cons. But at the end of the day, there’s no harm in procuring an MBA Degree but it may play as a negative factor if you don’t. What happened to the saying, “Knowledge is Power”?
And if you are sure that you want to work for a company or have your own startup, the course will only help you improvise, than not.
2. Enlightened Business Sense and Wider Job Opportunities after an MBA.
You want to learn the Business ethics, and that’s why you plan on signing up for the MBA course. You will be introduced to the perks of managing the business and be briefed about the downfall. All in all, this degree is a step ahead acquiring more knowledge about how to run a Business.
Once you see it all, you can work on your skills as a budding entrepreneur or as an MBA job seeker. Your confidence level will rise, and so will your values.

3. An MBA degree makes it a little bit easier while fund raising for your Startup.
If you bear a startup idea in mind, you need to make a list of the other requirements as well. What do you think is going to be the key factor in determining your early mileage?
Capital.Period.
Finding the right investor is the toughest out of the lot. Even though you may think that you have the best idea in the world (it might be true), but investors are the only people who can tell you how economically viable your idea is.
The harder it is for you to find an investor, the more complicated your plan may seem to be. But then again, as a part of a Business Institution you will meet a lot of different people while you are in school and also get access to the alumni network which can help you source the right investor.
Why did I mention Chris Gardner? He is not someone who had an MBA degree before he started working for himself.
Chris Gardner did make it on his own but without enough funding, he wouldn’t have gotten anywhere. So, no matter where you come from, you need to understand that your contacts can help you be better at what you do.
And lastly,
4. An MBA will help you figure out if you want to be your Own Boss or NOT.
You get time to brush up your skills and improvise. It’s a playing ground for you to learn and unlearn. Once you have got the basics sorted, it’s up to you to decide what’s next: A Job or probably your own firm.
At the end of the day, you need to make sure you are a team player because you will be dealing with a team, regardless of what you choose to work as. Always remember that products are built on people and not the other way around.

To make things clearer:
Yes, Chris Gardner was one among the few who made it to the top without an MBA Degree, and his Company is doing pretty great. That’s because he put in a lot of hard work, and it paid off. Lucky him!
But let’s be honest, the odds of that happening are not the greatest. Moreover, we all need to be practical. 1% of all the entrepreneurs make it past the first 6 months of the journey, let alone set up a billion dollar unicorn.
At the end of the day, the decision is yours. There is nothing right or wrong about it. What matters is the hard work that you have put in and the friends you have made.
