This was a really fun proof of concept. The primary goals of this test were to iterate and experiment on general UI layout, content choices, and user flow.

It all started with a picture I had in mind that was very representative of China’s countryside. The mountains of Guilin inspired the floating mountains in Avatar and are a really popular tourist destination. I made this in Adobe Illustrator

After the illustration graphic was complete, I brought the illustration and other icon assets into Torch3D, a mobile AR app built for prototyping and interaction design in augmented reality.

I tested a few menu options and this was the simplest. Torch3D was very helpful, but precision is difficult when working in 3D only using one hand on your iPad so the UI could definitely be fine tuned a bit more.

Of the menu options from left to right, there is general information, cuisine, music, and a map. There are many points of cultural curiosity, and these are a great springboard.
