It’s easy to get in a rut, not realizing how our daily behaviors are impacting our health as well as our personal and professional lives. If you are looking for ways to make small changes in your life with big impacts, Joel Chery recommends these tips. By identifying that you need to make some changes, you’ve already started along the path towards a more mindful and healthier lifestyle!

Start a monthly budget

Sometimes we don’t realize how small purchases can add up to big monthly expenses. If you’re looking to save money for a large purchase like a new car or a house; or saving for a vacation or new tech toy; one way to make a big impact on reaching those financial goals is to start a monthly budget and keep to it by tracking your daily and weekly purchases. By better understanding your personal finances, it is easier to identify and meet your financial goals.

Set personal and professional goals

If you are feeling the rut of personal or professional advancement, it’s time to set some goals and work towards them. Are you looking for a work promotion? Meet with your supervisor, ask them what you need to achieve to reach that long-term goal, and set smaller goals to work towards it. If you are in a personal rut, set short-term goals such as learning a new hobby, improving your workout regiment, visiting someplace new. Setting short, medium, and long-term goals helps us focus on daily tasks that build towards each goal and provide us with a feeling of accomplishment when we meet them!

Spend time with people who inspire you

Just changing the people in the room can have a huge impact on your mental health. If you’re looking for inspiration, find and spend time with people who inspire you. Don’t be afraid to ask someone at work or in your personal life to mentor you, or for advice on reaching your own goals. If you’re looking to improve your positive outlook, surround yourself with people who make you happy. If you need to add new relationships to your life, look for ways to meet new people with clubs, activities, meet-ups, and volunteer activities.

Volunteer your time

We all have busy lives and it can be hard to find time to give back, but even a few minutes a week can make a huge impact on those in need. For Joel Chery, that means coaching a variety of youth sports in his hometown of Worcester County, MA. Whether you have gently used clothing to donate to charity, time to volunteer to a local non-profit organization, or money to donate to a cause you believe in; giving back is never a waste of time or resources. If you’re not getting the professional experience you are looking for at your job, volunteer for an organization where you can learn new skills to help along a new career path. If you’re looking for new friends and colleagues, volunteer for an organization where you can meet new people who care about the same causes and issues you do. Volunteering is a great way to improve your outlook on life, create new experiences, and make a positive impact on the world around you.
