Essential Podcasts for Story Lovers

--

If you are not already listening to podcasts you’re missing out on some interesting stories that can help fuel the attack on your to-do list or power your boring daily commute.

Listening to good stories has the power to change our perceptions of the world, but I personally enjoy listening to podcasts while I do chores around the house. It also gives me a bit of a mental break from the constant visual stimulation I encounter daily.

Here is a tried and true list of podcasts focused on storytelling that I subscribe to and listen to regularly that I think anyone would enjoy.

This American Life

The standard-setter for storytelling podcasts and the most popular podcast in the country, TAL delivers great stories. Period. Topics range from crime, to politics, to war, to 24 hours at a random rest stop interviewing everyone who passes through.

Radio Lab

“A show about curiosity. Where sound illuminates ideas, and the boundaries blur between science, philosophy, and human experience.” The show dives into complex topics, but makes them relevant and interesting to us all.

The Moth

“True stories told live.” Their tagline says it all. Don’t bring expectations with you to a listening of The Moth podcast (which comes in many forms). Stories you think will make you laugh will instead make you cry, and stories that make you cry get surprising laughs. All true stories, told unscripted.

Snap Judgment

The biggest difference to the other podcasts is the show’s hip transition music, but after to listening to the other podcasts, it just feels different. Snap does it all with flair and purposeful drama.

Check these podcasts out. I promise you will not be disappointed.
