The Resurgence of Instagram

With the Tik Tok ban circulating through the government, what do we think will happen to other apps? Currently, most people believe it will create a massive resurgence for Instagram, which over the years has had a lower percentage of new users each year. Individuals believe this because Instagram has slowly been implementing Tik Tok features into its arsenal.

The biggest of these features being reels. While Instagram reels are very different than Tik Tok’s ForYou page, it still plays on the idea of short term videos, which have absolutely taken over the internet. With most indivudals addicted to them, they will have no other choice than to switch to Instagram, if the ban goes through. While YouTube is also doing this within Youtube Shorts, it is not nearly as popular as Reels.

However, the main reason that people believe this resurgence will happen, is not only from Instagram stealing Tik Tok features but also due to it stealing multiple other popular apps features as well. A while back Instagram took the idea of stories from SnapChat after its blow up, and is even in the works right now to take the SnapMaps feature from them as well.

With Instagram taking key features from the most popular soicial media apps, it is essentaily making itself a hub for everything everyone loves, meaning they would never have to leave the app. If the Tik Tok ban were to go through, this would only cement the inevitable.

Nevertheless, the internet is unpredictable and we may have a completely new app that pops up, or Tik Tok being bought, or something entirely different. There is no telling what will happen, we will just have to wait and see.
