Civil and Color Farm Partner to Promote a More Diverse Future for Journalism
A core tenet of Civil’s mission to power sustainable journalism throughout the world is to ensure that Civil’s community is representative of the global network it will serve. The current media landscape remains largely dominated by white men, and isn’t always as effective in giving equal credence to different perspectives as it could or should be.
It’s in this spirit that we’re thrilled to announce Color Farm Media as our latest partner. Color Farm is a media company and venture studio dedicated to ensuring that underrepresented communities of color are afforded a greater voice in the media landscape. Its co-founders include actress/writer/producer, Erika Alexander (seen recently in the Oscar-nominated film Get Out), and Ben Arnon, a tech entrepreneur who helped build the social media marketing startup, Wildfire, to 400+ employees before it was sold to Google in 2012.
The partnership between Civil and Color Farm is intended to demonstrate how emerging technologies and practices — like blockchain and cryptoeconomics — can help create a more inclusive and sustainable ecosystem for underrepresented voices in journalism. This will include driving awareness and adoption of the Civil platform amongst creators and consumers of color in cities including New York, Los Angeles, Atlanta, Washington D.C. and Detroit, amongst others.
Color Farm’s commitment to supporting and empowering creators of color, and activating communities around them, is a welcome addition to Civil’s efforts to form an engaged network of participants from day one. Economies thrive when everyone can participate and be productive. Through our work together, we will ensure that CVL tokens, which will power activity across the Civil economy, are distributed to a diverse community of individuals and organizations that have stories to tell from all over the world.
“Color Farm’s mission is to bring greater inclusion and diversity to media and technology, and to expand opportunities for underrepresented communities of people,” said Erika Alexander, co-founder at Color Farm Media. “This partnership with Civil gives us an opportunity to bring meaningful, impactful, untold stories to the world, together.”
Color Farm’s first project that will run on Civil will be a Newsroom called “The Blackness,” a multimedia, long-form, investigative reporting outlet focused on overlooked human interest stories impacting communities of color in the United States. It’s targeting a launch date between December 2018 and January 2019.
