Like any thriving economy, Civil needs as large and diverse a community as possible. This means everyone in the world who cares about journalism should be the ones writing, curating, supporting, and ultimately governing Civil. The way we see it, traditional publishers are incentivized to satisfy the demands of centralized platforms like Google and Facebook, advertisers and shareholders, irrespective of whether those decisions allow them to produce quality, ethical journalism. We need a new model.

We envision the news being powered by journalists and the people they serve. On Civil, this means a community of people passionate about the importance of journalism will help support and guide that journalism. So whatever you’re passionate about — whether it’s climate change, or local news from your hometown, or healthcare, international politics, all of the above or none of the above — CVL tokens will be your voice and voting power to make those issues front-and-center for the journalists who write about them. But in order for this to really work, we need to hit a critical mass of users on our platform.

Here’s how it works:

1. Complete your transaction for the CVL token sale on civil.co.
2. After you’ve successfully registered for the token sale, you’ll get an email with a unique referral code.
3. Share this email with your friends and family. Each person who successfully refers your code on their new application and contributes $100 or more to the token sale will reward you with $100 of CVL (up to $10,000 of CVL).
4. To claim all your tokens, you and your friends must all complete final registration before the CVL network goes live one week after the conclusion of our token sale.
