Why We’re Moving Our Public Channel from Slack to Telegram

As our Civil community grows exponentially week-over-week and we get closer to our Q2 2018 token launch (more details coming soon!) we’ve decided to launch a Telegram channel (access it via https://t.me/join_civil) to best communicate how to acquire Civil (CVL) tokens.

To date, Slack has been our most active public forum for interacting with the growing Civil community. We’ve enjoyed meeting so many of you there, and will continue to maintain a presence on #intros and #the-bullpen, by far our two most popular channels. But going forward, we will dedicate those two channels to conversations about Civil Newsrooms and how we believe blockchain can unlock a new funding model for journalism. And we will shift the majority of Civil staff time and attention to moderating our Telegram community.

Why Telegram?

We value our community’s security above all else. Slack, for all its strengths, lacks some of Telegram’s safeguards and verification features. It’s prohibitively more difficult for scammers to infiltrate Telegram and attempt to promote false links for purchasing CVL tokens.

So Telegram is where we will moderate all conversations about CVL token acquisition. WE WILL NOT use Slack to share any information about the CVL token, with the goal of better preserving your security.

If somebody does promote CVL tokens on Slack, know that it’s not an official communication from Civil. Please report the post to us, then promptly ignore them.

Here are a few more resources that provide more information on how to download and use Telegram:

And again: here’s where you can sign up for Civil’s Telegram.

We recognize that many initial Civil supporters may not be interested in CVL tokens — they want to support quality journalism, and do so with non-cryptocurrencies — and that’s perfectly fine. We welcome their participation on Telegram, while keeping the #intros and #the-bullpen Slack channels open for journalism discussions.

Thanks for your continued support. Onwards & upwards !
