Paladin update — where are we now?
This summer has been a busy one at Paladin! We’ve been hard at work building our team, technology and network so we can help make pro bono more powerful than ever. Here’s a sneak peek into what we’ve been working on!
Paladin Joins Grand Central Tech’s 2016 Class
Chosen out of 1000+ applicants, Paladin is one of 19 incredible startups now headquartered at Grand Central Tech! At GCT, we have regular programming, events, mentors and resources to help Paladin grow. For the full story, check out the Business Insider feature on Paladin and the other startups in GCT’s 2016 Class.
Success Stories from Our Enterprise Beta
For the last 6 months, we’ve beta matched 50 lawyers from companies like Birchbox, Blackrock and Oscar. Some are already on their second match! Now we’re launching partnership pilots with companies, law firms and law schools, such as the University of Baltimore School of Law, where we’re connecting students with their community and tracking their impact. Here’s a few early success stories from law students in our pilot:
“I assisted about 30 clients with expungement of their criminal and traffic record so that they could pursue employment opportunities…. All of the clients that I assisted thanked me for my help and said that it made a huge difference in their lives.”
“[I] helped domestic violence victims get protective orders.”
“I helped shape transgender policy.”
“I was able to work with some amazing lawyers, who had huge caseloads and barely enough time to prepare for trial. I worked with them every day hearing about terrible things that happen to children all too commonly and was blessed to work with those who work to make those children’s lives better.”
As we continue to grow, we’d love to meet other wonderful firms, companies or law schools interested in boosting their pro bono.
New Website and Tech Platform
This summer we worked with developers at Lightmatter who revamped our website and built out our tech platform. Moving into fall, and now that we’ve built our MVP, we’re excited to bring onboard an incredible CTO to help us scale our positive impact.
We’re Rounding Out Our Founding Team
This summer we’ve worked with some incredible interns (pictured below) interested in startups, tech and social justice. Our intern Antione even published his Paladin experience in Wharton’s Entrepreneurship Blog! This month we’re excited to welcome Phoebe Duggan, an Australian lawyer and former pro bono advocate at JusticeConnect, as our Head of Nonprofits to help us partner with legal aid organizations that are doing incredible work in their communities.
Thank you for your continued support as we work hard to do good, do well, and in the process close the justice gap!
