Ever get the urge to just travel? Whether it’s your wanderlust, career goals, or desire to experience new cultures, moving abroad opens up so many cool opportunities. However, it can be tough for young adults to make the move and find a place to work. Many popular destinations have strict immigration laws, but that doesn’t mean it’s impossible. Here’s a small collection of cities with a lot to offer young expats from across the world to start your research.

Traveling, living, and working in Bangkok is a great experience. Thousands upon thousands of expats come to the city each year and many people choose to retire here. Bangkok is filled with delicious street food stands and fusion restaurants owned by culinary professional expats. The Thai people are said to be very hospitable and the relaxed, beachy atmosphere is quite different than the typical corporate world.

Barcelona, Spain

Barcelona presents the best of both worlds with beaches, mountains, and everything in between. Located in the Catalonia region of Spain, this city is situated right in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea and the sub-Pyrenees Mountains. The majority of the year sees cloudless skies and warm weather. On top of all that, the Mediterranean cuisine, including pork and fresh seafood, is delicious.

Auckland, New Zealand

As New Zealand’s largest city, Auckland has attracted the biggest portion of expats for years. Working here is easily accessible thanks to the Working Holiday Scheme. This program allows Americans under 30 to spend up to a year in the country, whether it’s for vacation, work, or study abroad. Without a doubt, you’ll be sure to find diverse cultures, friendly people, and magnificent scenery here.

Oslo, Norway

Working in Oslo offers great opportunities in a variety of industries and a strong economy. Expats here benefit from Norway’s social welfare system and a healthy work-life balance. Norwegian working hours appear somewhat lax and employees are often encouraged to participate in team building exercises. Oslo is divided by two rivers and enclosed by forests and mountains, perfect for wilderness adventures.

Moving to a foreign country can be scary, but living abroad as an expat offers so many life changing experiences. Wherever you may end up, good luck, buena suerte, and lykke til!
