Dorm Room Fund is a VC firm focused on supporting student founders to build their startups. Two years ago, DRF launched its Female Founder Track to help female and non-binary students scale their projects, raise capital, and establish a network of like-minded women. Over the course of six-weeks, thirteen young female entrepreneurs are given the opportunity to learn from and be mentored by some of the most high profile and successful founders, investors, and operators around the country.

For a program designed around building a strong community, the transition to an entirely remote program would have been challenging. In order to help make this switch, Female Founder Track decided to use Glimpse as an icebreaker tool at their kickoff event. “It was such a great way to have spontaneous, organic interactions instead of being on a giant screen with everyone all at once,” said Isabelle Zhou, Managing Partner at DRF. Founders from different startups were matched up for brief one-on-one conversations to meet and privately bond with their fellow cohort members.

If you are planning a fun team-building event or are looking for a way to build community within your organization, here are some tips and tricks for using Glimpse:

  • Play a minigame or ask one of the question prompts to break the ice
  • Customize the question prompts to suit your event/organization
  • Use the photobooth feature to capture some memories
  • Click the “Connect” button to stay in touch with the people you meet
  • Keep an eye out for the post-Glimpse call summary email to see everyone you connected with during the event
