Virtual speed-dating events have become a great way for friends, coworkers, classmates, and more to connect online. To create a virtual speed dating event in less than 5 minutes, use a combination of Zoom and Glimpse, a platform made for round-robin video calls.

Instead of manually creating multiple Zoom breakout rooms and consistently rotating them, send a link to join a Glimpse room through the Zoom chat. In a Glimpse room, people are automatically matched for one-on-one video calls with icebreaker questions, games, and a photo-booth. Here’s a step by step on how to set up a speed-dating event using Zoom and Glimpse:

  1. Create a Glimpse room: Go to Glimpse’s website and select the blue “Start Glimpsing” button on the main page.

This takes you to the Glimpse video platform page. To create a room, click on “🚀 Register to Create a Room.”

This takes you to a login page so that you can make a Glimpse account.

After you make an account, click “Create” to create your first Glimpse room.

2. Pick out Glimpse settings that fit your event: When creating a room, you can customize settings to make for a personalized Glimpse experience. To start off, brand your event with a room name and description. Next, customize your matching by selecting how long each pair is matched for, the number of match extensions, and whether people are matched randomly or by match type(ex. “Freshman” and “Sophomore”). For some fun customization, you can add personalized icebreaker questions.

3. Create a Zoom meeting, welcome everyone, and send a link to a Glimpse room: The last step is to bring everyone together in a Zoom meeting, give a brief rundown of how the Glimpse speed dating event will run, send out the Glimpse room link, and start Glimpsing!
