The Isle of Mull — My Favourite Place?

Why do I love Mull? Probably as it seems to be the best spot in the UK for wildlife photography that I’ve been to. But I love the calm of Mull and the amazing Autumn landscapes.
I’ve recently made a big upgrade from my Canon EOS 7d to the EOS R and I have to admit I’m loving it. There’s a noticeable difference in image quality but the focus on this thing is awesome.

I thought I was going to be out of luck with the weather and a boat trip out with Mull Charters. Martin messaged to say that we were still good to go even thought it was late in the season and there’d been some rough weather. This was my second trip out in the last 2 years with Martin and Alex and once again the showing from the White Tailed Eagles was spectacular. It’s a bit of a gamble with a new camera and fundamentally different settings and button layout but I’m more than happy with the shots I was able to take.
The last time I visited Mull is spent some time trying to find otters. Maybe it was my field craft, maybe the timing or as we all experience with wildlife maybe it was bad luck. I managed to take zero shots apart from a distant head that couldn’t truly be distinguished from the waves in the loch.

This time luck was on our side. We sat watching a grey heron and it was after a good few minutes that we realised an otter was resting on the rocks. I managed to hide behind a rock and we must have spent 45 minutes watching this fantastic guy laze around.

It’s not just Otters and Eagles though. We managed to get some good views of other wildlife whilst out and about on our travels.
