Heisenberg and the silver economy
--
Data deletes any kind of doubt: population is getting older and population pyramid is going down. The fertility rates are reducing their numbers- less than two kids per woman in the world- and following UN expectations, life expectancy will be 77, when 72 is at global level right now. This situation will take influence at social and economic level globally, but also in Spain, one of the countries with one of the lowest fertility rates. According to some estimates in Mediterranean countries, like Spain and Italy, it is expected that population older than 65 will represent 46% over the total in 2050, same scenario in other developing countries.
Here is where silver economy appears, which studies social- economic effects and opportunities due to this aging population effect: applied to workers, productivity, longer active-life in Companies and aging population in COVID society. It is estimated that workers will extend their working lives, therefore late retirements.
The cost of maintaining older population based on pension plans or healthcare systems at public level, is going to be too expensive for governments. Nevertheless, silver economy entails challenges and opportunities, generating value at economic and social level due to commercial (and not commercial) activities of productivity, creating new professions, intergeneration social capital, knowledge transference and economic dynamic due to accumulative savings.
Heinsenberg´s uncertainty principle is based on how this measuring act can take influence in this measured system. In this sense, if one society measures advances thinking about silver economy, this society will be more focused on this kind of economy and its drivers. These revenues can be included in policy changes and organizing initiatives which affect society in a positive way at all levels
Therefore, it´s mandatory to provide a rigorous methodology to measure progress in silver economy and success of a nation in meeting economic and social citizens´ needs in a context of aging population.
