As part of my reporting on diversity in the University of Georgia Greek life, I visited Milledge Avenue to gain knowledge on the atmosphere that most Greek life members experience day to day. The air was cooler than it had been in weeks, and there was a drizzle falling on the pavement in front of the large buildings that have housed past and present Greek students. Most, if not all the houses stand tall compared to other buildings on the street, some reminding me of an old plantation home, which is slightly ironic. Around the doors and windows are signs forbidding entry unless you are wearing a mask. There aren’t many students walking the sidewalks due to the rain, but the ones that are waiting for a bus or taking a walk on the popular street, most wearing their greek letters with pride on their tee shirts. Every once in a while you see a pair wearing masks, but most aren’t wearing them. Whether it’s because of the fresh air or because they just don’t care, I can’t say. Overall the street is peaceful other than the engines of the cars waiting at the main lights. No girls were sitting on porches or boys throwing the football, perhaps because many aren’t living in the house this year.
